The 50's Housewife

I am feeling so elated this morning, because in the interest of trying to save a little money, I have decided to make my husband lunch to take to work. I woke up early (after giving the baby a middle of the night feed at 3.30am) at 7am and got to work in the kitchen making mince & cheese toasties (using the leftover mince from lastnights dinner) which i packed alongisde a small container of peanuts and a small bag of chips.
After I had done that, I proceeded to make him some toast and coffee for breakfast just in time for my loving hubby to walk into the kitchen, give me a peck on the cheek and a cheery "good morning darling"

I strangely felt happy, a sense of achievement??? It was so weird, but I think I understand now how the 1950's housewife felt...being a stay home mum has its perks of course, but I guess there is sometimes this feeling of wanting to be important, to have some kind of drive to make your household a happy and loving one. Breakfast and Lunch for the hubby is only a start, dinner is also a treat and my husband is always so appreciative of a nice hot meal at the end of a long hard day - come on, its the least I can do!!

So I guess for a mum/wife it is built in our DNA somewhere that these types of things (housework included) just make us feel useful and like we have achieved something important for the day - maybe that is why woman of the 50's use to do it? It really is something to think about, because if I really think about it, I never came home from my office job feeling so elated and satisfied before, I guess because by boss doesn't show her appreciation to me like my husband does...hehe

lets see how long that lasts hehe xx

60kg...I wish

So in the last few days I feel like I have lost a bit more of my baby fat...thank goodness, I was beginning to think I would be an oompa loompa for ever, don't wanna be like this guy...

so in light of my new found skinnyness (and I use that term very lightly) I have decided to try and set myself a goal and shed a few more pounds. I have a goal in mind, my cousin is getting married in july and for once I would like to attend a wedding looking less like a whale in a dress and more like a woman.

So first off I will be going to Zumba classes they have started at church - thank goodness, and I I have already started to eat more healthy, no takeaways and making wholesome meals at home - so I guess that is a bonus...of course I am still indulging in the odd chockie bickkie or cake now and then, so will have to try and eliminate them from my diet coz lets face it, none is more then some, and some is not a word in my culinary vocabulary so best to just cut it out all together until I am skinny enough to feel like I deserve it!

So with Zumba, and maybe some light jogging or running around a few blocks will be a good way to start...its the sticking to it that is the hard part!!

Wish me luck xx

My First Mothers Day ...

Finally!! The time has come where it is my turn to bask in this glorious day called "Mothers Day"!! This time last year I was actually a month pregnant I think and I so couldn't wait and now it is here!!

So in the hopes that somehow my loving husband, who usually has no clue about these things finds this blog and takes the hint...hehe

Anyone who knows me knows how much of a Harry Potter Fan I am , already I have the book & dvd collections so naturally getting the next instalment (Deathly Hallows 1) would be a great gift (an not so expensive either)

Again, one of my other fav things to do is read, so this would also be another inexpensive gift which I will enjoy...I have heard so many good things about it and read tons of reviews so once I have a chance I am getting this book if not on mothers day!

If anything, all I want do is to spend time with my Husband and daughter, the gifts of course would be nice, but in the end, its all about spending the day with your family!!

Enjoy the rest of the week and Happy Mothers day to all you super mums out there!!

Food, Food, Food!!!

Ok so since being a stay at home mum there are only so many things you can do to make your day just that little bit more exciting...of course the joys of being a mum speak for itself and nothing can replace those crucial first few months with your baby once you are home from the hospital. But now my gorgeous daughter is almost 4 months old and is discovering the world of bouncers & playmats, it gives me a few moments of the day where I can start looking for other projects.

So other than my wardrobe project, which is still in full swing, just need to get out and find some 2nd hand tops to do more stuff...I have decided to try exploring cooking. I have always had a knack for the basic type of cooking, since my mum in my opinion is an amazing cook and I would like to think some of her skills rubbed off on me. But I want to try and make more advanced or at least more adventurous types of dishes, and on a budget - since we are a one income family at the moment until I go back to work. So that is my new challenge (or mini project)for now at least anyway.

So yesterday I made a chicken soup with pumpkin, potaotes and noodles which was amazing!! I forgot to take a pic of it but it was my first time working with pumpkin and it totally worked!!

Today I did a curried sausage with mixed veggies and onions:

This can be served with either rice or mashed potatoes, and is oh so delicious!! I can't wait to eat it!!

Nom nom xx

Project Wardrobe

Ok so, I was thinking what I can do to keep myself busy (and interesting)and thought I would share with you all my new mini project. Aside from trying to lose this baby fat (and yes there is a lot of it!!) I am trying to re-cycle my old clothes, especially the ones that are just a wee bit snug. I started with something simple, a T-Shirt. Sometimes I think the neckline makes me look fatter, especially the baggy ones, and I have a love of those off the shoulder type tees that seem to be coming back in (from the 80's) - so I looked up on YouTube on how to convert my tired old baggy Tees into something more wearable and came up with this:

Ok so this Tee is not really that baggy, I just thought it needed a re-vamping, but I was really happy with the way it turned out, it fits much better and it makes me feel less like a hippo and more "Hip" hehe

Next I want to try doing the same to an old sweatshirt, but I will need to find the perfect one, like this "Black Parade" Tee I want a sweatshirt with a print (preferably a vintage image) coz I think that would look super-cute! Once I find one, I will definitely post up the finished product!

Yay xx

This time I promise to be true...

Ok so another year has past and we are in 2011 and again I have neglected my poor blog. I think this time I will be more on to it because now that I am a stay home mother I will have more down time to write stuff, what kind of stuff, ummm yes well I don't know - probably boring mundane stuff, but it will be my outlet to the world (as if many people will be reading this haha) but at least it will keep me sane.

So today we have been told that Osama Bin Laden is dead - after 10yrs finally, I guess we should be happy but its really hard to say, they have been streaming pictures from the USA of crowds of people cheering and chanting "USA" outside the whitehouse - that is just asking for trouble, I am sure Osama's people are going to retaliate...which will just spark another war. I don't have much of an opinion about the war in Iraq at the moment, but I do worry about what this world is coming to sometimes.

Anyway, that is all that I can muster up today because I am a bit tired from motherly duties and my brain is fried lol but until my next update - hopefully I will keep to my promise and update regularly (not like how I have done in the past hehe) this time I will be true!!

until then xx
