Things never happen according to plan. When you think you’re happy, something will come along in life that will test that happiness. If you’re strong, you’ll just ignore it and re-confirm your choices in life, but if you become curious and take the bait you end up watching your happiness dissolve away into bubbles of nothing. It forces you to re-evaluate your life and you wonder why did you give into your curiosity? Why could you not be strong in the choices you had already made? Were you hoping you would find more happiness? Did you become secretly greedy and want to have it all? Or was fate tempting you with something more to help you realise that you in fact have more to lose then you do to gain?
What is so tempting about discovering new heights of happiness? Some may say that it is a part of human nature to be curious about things we don’t know. Just look all throughout history, it’s full of people discovering things through genuine curiosity which still to this day we all benefit from. So what is the big secret about happiness? Is it because there is no scientific study or formula to guarantee pure happiness that causes us as human beings to try and discover new measures?
Happiness is defined in the dictionary as the quality or state of being happy. So if we look closely at ourselves and ask, “what makes me happy” we should be able to find the answer, right? But what if you can’t be sure? What if what you think will make you happy, turns out to be the exact opposite and throw you so far back on the happiness scale you’ll have to build yourself up again from scratch. I know, there are a lot of what if’s...but when it’s your life you’re gambling with, it’s always best to bet on a sure thing.
Sometimes we make the wrong choices, sometimes we are so consumed by our curiosity that we’re willing to risk everything we have just for a taste of what looks so sweet from a distance. It might seem good for a while, but then it quickly turns bad and causes all kinds of new problems you never knew could exist in your life. You start to spiral out of control and quickly become in desperate search of the panic/release button. You then become so scared and start to wonder if it’s at all possible to go back to your original state of happiness. Then you realise that your rash actions created an alternative path in your life making it impossible for you to return.
If you’re looking for answers here I can only tell you one sure thing. The biggest obstacle that prevents you from finding happiness ... is you. Only you know what makes you happy and only you will be able to make that happiness come to fruition. There is no secret formula or instruction manual, there are just you and your decisions you make in life. Some people may throw caution to the wind and try to discover the many measures of happiness out there; others may take careful notes and evaluate the pros and cons before moving from one stage of happiness to another. Whichever category you fall under, only you will know the key to unlocking your true happiness.
And what has life taught me you ask? Well, whatever you decide to do in your life constitutes the degree of happiness you experience. You may make bad decisions from time to time, but it’s how you deal with those decisions that either help or hinder your pursuit of happiness. You could choose to wallow in self pity and seek revenge on those who did you wrong, or you can learn from it.
Everyone has a passion, a desire and a will to do their best in life.
What happens next ... is up to you.
